Can't comment on the new building, as I gave birth there in Feb just before they moved over, but the care I received was absolutely second to none, and I cannot praise it more highly. I had 3 hospital stays due to complications prior to giving birth and was so, so well looked after. My actual delivery was great too, I had the entire delivery suite to myself (12-odd empty rooms) and was in a postnatal bay with just one other new mum. I think I pretty much dealt with all the midwives and they were just so professional, caring and warm.

I have heard too many horror stories about the Womens to ever consider it. In general, it's a very big, very busy hospital. Everyone I know who has given birth there has been left alone for long periods and most ended up with horrible inductions or c-sections. In contrast, my midwife didn't leave my side for the whole 12 hour labour (arrived when was 8cm) and made me 3 lots of much-welcomed tea and toast! The day after birth, they were in no rush to get rid of me, DD wasn't feeding too well and they said I could stay another night just so they could give me a hand if I wanted to.

This is worth a look www.nhs.uk/Scorecard/pages/MaternityScorecard.aspx?sctype=9&view=6&Place=Merseyside&Coords=3944,3388

Stressheaderic, thank you for you comments, they have reassured me that Whiston is the way to o, plus its only 10 mins from home.

I would suggest staying local to...although I have no personal experience of birth at either.
To balance it out though I have heard some very positive stories about the Women's..everyone is different on their experience and expectations
