Giving birth in Colchester Hospital

Hi all

only just found that MN had a locals section!

I may well be giving birth in november in Colchester hospital, and just hoped to gather a few experiences. It sounds like there is a new maternity-led ward there now, which didn't exist when my friend had a bad experience giving birth in the hospital.

Did anyone use the birthing pool? How is the post-natal ward? Does anyone know if private rooms are available?

I'm not in england at the moment, so can't investigate myself, so any shared experiences welcome.

Thanks!

Hi Island baby.
There is some info here on an old thread.
I cannot comment on the new birthing unit. Is it actually open now?
I know people who used the birthing pool at the General, although they may have moved these if the unit is nopw open.
The post natal ward is OK...about as good as a ward with 6 new Mums with babies can be! There are some side rooms, but I presume they are for special cases.

My experiences there have been good, even if things didn't always go to plan. Close friends who have birthed there also feel they were cared for well.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for and that you get chance to visit in good time for your baby being born.

islandbaby good luck for november. I gave birth 2 yrs ago there and 4 so I expect things have changed. I came from Clacton midwife led unit which was brill but I was paranoid about being too far from Colchester should anything go wrong.
Both births for me were very positive experiences. I hope it goes really well and you get settled soon.
