Please can anyone recommend a plumber for the villages between Cambridge and North Herts please? My washing machine AND water supply are playing silly beggars.

Thanks ever so much.

Do you think you need a washing machine repair man or a plumber? Can recommend both/either

Vallhala · 30/09/2010 17:56

Definitely don't need a washing machine repair man as I've just bought a new machine Daisy, which is waiting to be installed.

I need someone to plumb it in - not being lazy, honest, I've a beggared arm and as the plumbing is at an awkward angle to the bottom of the sink unit I'm scared of causing the arm more damage. Whilst they're at it I need the plumber to tell me whether the existing machine is faulty or whether it's the plumbing which is causing it not to work as I have some odd things going on with that too.

That's really not helping much, is it?

I'll explain (get a chair and a cuppa!).

My WM decided to stop at various stages of the cycle and had to be manually turned to make it move to the next stage. It also seems to be filling only with hot water. Whilst investigating the intake pipes under the sink I discoveref that the hot pipe was leaking so I reported this to the Landlord. He came along, fiddled with them, stopped the leak but couldn't get the WM working properly either. he DID mess around with the hot and cold taps under the sink which control the intake of water to the WM and although I can't make them do anything different despite moving them this way or that I'm wondering if he's stopped the cold flow.

Subsequently the hot and cold water taps in my upstairs bathroom handbasin (and only there, oddly) have switched over insofar as the hot tap now provides cold water and vice versa.

As far as I can make out from the web this could be down to the temperature guage on the boiled breaking down BUT it may not be!

Similarly the WM problem COULD be down to a leak BUT it may not be!

So, I've said sod it, bought a new WM, which s I said, is waiting to be plumbed in (the old one was ancient anyway and without a quick wash facility or a particularly good spin speed). I now want that plumbed in so I have a WM that works properly, to know if the existing one is not working purely because of a leak or water supply problem as I have promised it to an engineer friend but would like him to know if he has a working or faulty machine when he comes to collect it, and to know the reason for the swapped hot and cold supply to the bathroom handbasin and, if necessary, get the landlord to sort that out as if it's the temp guage it could be dangerous.

Are you still awake? :)

We've been stung more times that I can mention with dodgy plumbers but these guys are fantastic. Very knowledgeable, helpful and most importantly HONEST!

Hope that helps...

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. I would recommend someone called Michael Pridmore 01440 710263. Sorry to hear about your purse Sad

DaisySteiner, help please! But try not to laugh too much!

The problem with the taps changing over described above... well, I don't need a ^plumber* any more.

DD1 (15) has admitted that she changed the little red and blue tops to the bathroom basin taps over a couple of weeks back, with the intention of confusing my best friend when he visited!

Little sod!

So, I no longer need a plumber but instead need just a washing machine engineer to plumb the damn thing in which is still sitting in the middle of my kitchen, gleaming shiny new. I've concluded that I'm not going to risk an already damaged arm crawling under the sink to do it myself... and that really I should be making DD1 do it instead as a punishment!!

Please could you pass on the details of the engineer you were going to recommend Daisy?

Thank you.
