Salford baby unit closure

Hi, my local neonatal and maternity unit was scheduled to close next year but the decision is being reviewed.
The local maternity forum have set up an on - line petition and I hope lots of you will sign it for us. www.gopetition.com/petition/38529.html

If our unit closes families will have to travel further to get care. They will also be separated from family.

There is also a facebook site Keep Hope Maternity Open for those who wish to show their support and a 'Born in Salford' event at Buile Hill Park this Saturday at 2pm. Whilst I am biased (I trained and work as a midwife at Salford) I genuinely believe the families of Salford deserve their own maternity and neonatal services, instead of travelling to Central Manchester or Bolton. Particularly as Salford has a very low level of car ownership and large families.
Btw, we are not closing because of any failings in our care, it is part of the 'Making it Better' programme.
