Advice on schools for self employed single mum with primary age children, just moved to Brighton

Hi there, I've just moved back to Brighton (why did I ever move away!). Anyway my boys are 6 & 8 and I'm negotiating the schools system. We live between Fiveways and Preston Park. The boys have been allocated Patcham Primary and St Josephs Infants. ??!! (none of my choices)

I have a myriad of questions from are these good schools, should I hold out for Downs, which one of these schools should I get them into long term, how do I meet other mums with slightly older kids, anyone else negotiating self employment and childcare, where is there a good dentist etc etc?!!!

Be lovely to hear your stories and advice. We're often in Preston Park at the Rotunda if anyone fancies a coffee
Thanks in advance
Georgie

just met a mum in a park whose kid is at St Josephs and it sounds lovely - they had some sort of nature garden? Don't know anything else!
