What's Bath like for getting part-time work?

Hello Bath folk. My brother is moving to Bath to do a PhD this October, and will need to get a part-time job to fund himself. How easy/hard is this likely to be? He's a mature student, in his 40s, his work experience is in teaching English for speakers of other languages, but I think he'd be prepared to do almost anything. I have no clue what the job market is like (been a SAHM for a few years and now live abroad).

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi flimflammum!

I moved to Bath a year ago and have to say, the job situation here is pretty dire. The council announced 300 job cuts today which is a fraction of what is yet to come. I'm actually going back to college for 2 years in September because I can't find a job Sad.

However.. if your DB is an experienced ESL teacher, there are lots and lots of English language schools in the city and I'm sure he could find some suitable work.

HERE is a list of local schools he could check out.

I'd recommend the Bath Academy they are always looking for language tutors. It's based in queen square and they are an Academy for International Students, they offer language courses and foundation courses. It's worth a go.

Depending on the Uni he will be doing his PhD with, they often have a jobshop and often know of part time jobs. Sometimes within the Uni itself.

Bath college of FE also do EFL classes. There are loads of foreign students at the universities. He may just be able to get some private work. Less hours, more pay, as language school isn't taking a cut!

Gosh, I'm sorry for not coming back to say thank you, Bath people! I had given up checking back on this thread. I will pass on your recommendations, much appreciated.
