we're moving up to edinburgh and into a house at the end of august and there are a few bits of building work that we will need done - knocking a wall down here and building another one there - that kind of thing! Obviously we don't know any reasonably priced builders in the city so if you know a good one please let me know.. also if you know any to avoid then please do let me know that too, thanks!

Have you tried Homeforce? They advertise l ocally and on net, and if they can't help, might suggest someone who can?(Have used them to help around house, they got someone in to remove old sink, and electrician and plumber etc) Depends on the job you need I suppose. From your previous posting you are local to me(as are they)
ps tell me about school result???

sorry only just realized you had replied scrab, thanks! Thats a good starting point, I will get in touch with them. Think i saw them on a recommended builders website too..
I spoke to the council about schools and as I thought, we can't do anything til term starts again and i can talk direct to Flora Stevenson to see if they have any gaps in the nursery.. I'm not holding my breath but I am figuring that if they can't take him there then maybe Stockbridge or Blackhall might have space, although I'm sure they are full to bursting too..
will just have to wait and see and hope the best! Seems to have worked out for us so far

My DH can help you... He is an architect but also can do small building works, he has just started freelance work. Very diligent and thorough.

fairylights · 05/08/2010 22:30

Just so you know, (in case you don't already) schools will be open for teacher training on Mon 16th, so Headteacher will be around then, a few days before children back. Good luck.

fairylights · 06/08/2010 21:57

yes thanks the lady at the council told me that. I am going to be on the phone to them starting my annoying-mother routine at 9am on the 16th! Grin

Just seen this. My job is working with building contractors in Edinburgh so yes, I can help. Do you want to CAT me?

My top recommendation at the moment is a company called Border Developments run by a guy called Ian Campbell. They're fast and conscientious and will stick closely to the quote.

If you are looking forBuilders in Edinburgh I can't recommend Craiglockhart enough. They have now completed a kitchen extension and a flat refurbishment for me.
