Baby Wearing - sling advice

Hi
I'm 16 weeks pregnant and starting to have a think about kit for my little one. I'm a bit of a hippy earth mother at heart and love the idea of baby wearing. It's a mine field though just searching online for sling styles and wondered if there's anyone in and around Leeds that can advise on how they've got on? Or are there any local retailers that have slings in stock that you can have a play with? I live in East Keswick near Harewood. Even better are there any local groups of sling users about ?!

Thanks for any help and advice

Olivia

Hi,

On the second Saturday of every month there's a sling meet at the Leeds City Museum, in the cafe.

Quite a few of us around who babywear so there's always a few of us going, even if some can't make it

Oh meant to add, there's sometimes meets in Horsforth too. Also Hebden Bridge and Huddersfield.

On yahoo there's a group called Whiterosebabywearers (search the groups page on Yahoo) as they get announced on there.

BumbleO

a sling meet is a great idea as you can play dress-up, when I wanted to move on from my tricotti to a babyhawk I spied a woman with one and had a go. Pesonally I would swerve baby bjorns and ones that only carry the weight on one shoulder.

I love my babyhawk it is beautiful and I use it every day and my dd is 3 in Sept.

Fantastic - thanks so much for your advice - will definitely try and pop along to one of the sling meets. Will be really helpful to see them in use and great that there's an opportunity when little person arrives to meet up with some like minded mums and dads...

I live in Bardsey and have two slings (both one piece material that you tie in different positions). I have a Kari-Me and an Ellaroo. I'd be more than happy to dig them out and pop round with my 20 month old son to show you how they work if your interested?

I would definitely recommend the Ergo - you can get a newborn insert and use it right up until they are toddlers - my 3 year old can still fit in it easily.

The weight is carried on your hips (not straining your shoulders like lots of others). As a baby you carry the baby at the front but when they are older you can carry in front, on your back or on your hip.

I tried a friends before I bought mine and I was sold straight away!

I agree with above comments on baby bjorns

What's wrong with BabyBjorn slings?
