moving to Horfield

Hi all,

I'm moving to Horfield from London this week (eek!) with my 17 month old DS and just realised that a lot of playgroups may be stopping for the summer break (they do here, anyway). I'm keen to meet other mums and get some sort of social life going, both for me and DS, so does anyone know of any free/cheapish stuff going on in the area I could go to?

thanks!!

There's a big paddling pool (kind of a lido for the little ones) next to the play area in St Andrew's Park, which is not too far from Horfield - very popular with toddlers on a sunny day. It's free, just don't forget the swim nappies...

welcome to Brizzle I moved here a year ago from London, best thing I ever did.

Get yourself a copy of the Titch Hikers' Guide - brilliant source of info for all things child-related in Bris and includes lots of groups and free stuff to do.

There is a fairly regular Bristol MN'ers meet up on Friday mornings too.

There's a new cafe on Gloucester rd which has a children's soft play area in the back - might be a good place to meet other people with children a similar age. Can't remember what it's called though - maybe someone else can....?

Cairns road toddler thing (with cafe for mums) shuts some days in summer hols but not all and is generaly v friendly (shits for 2 weeks I think). The café is open during term time on Monday and Wednesday, 9 till 2, Friday 10.15 till 2. It's free though.

Wiggles and Giggles goes through the holidays as well I think. May be worth giving them a shout. It is good for meeting people too as the groups are quite small and the mums all chat at the beginning of the session.

at hettie's "shits for 2 weeks" although I agree that Cairns rd is somewhere else you could try. I've always found it a bit cliquey though so may be best to try to drag someone along with you.

Watching with interest as moving to Bishopston with school age DDs and 11mo DS

Thanks for the info. Have ordered my copy of titchhikers!
I went to the cafe on Gloucester Road this morning, it's called Rimandos and has a decent, although quite small, play area at the back. Good place to go if the weather is poor, although DS was periodically trying to escape through the front door and into the street and it was only just as we were leaving that they put a gate up so would definitely go there again if they did that.
Will investigate Cairns Road and brace myself for cliqueyness!
And the wiggles and giggles thing, cheers!

Imam doing W&G from September on Tuesdays so might see you there

happygermanmum · 21/07/2010 13:22

Hi
I'm new to mumsnet and was wondering where you meet on a Friday?

Runoutofideas · 21/07/2010 14:54

Sorry - I've never been to a Friday meet up but I think they normally go to the cafe at @bristol, or the museum.

M44 · 21/07/2010 18:05

hello we must be quite close! There are toddler sessions at St.Matthews Church, Clare Road, Kingsdown on Tuesday mornings, in the summer hols starting in August...you might meet me there! It might be a bit further than you might like to go but they are so welcoming and great fun....great facilities, disabled access and great changing station.

bratnav · 21/07/2010 21:11

Cafe @Bristol at 10ish, come along we are lovely and non cliquey

happygermanmum · 22/07/2010 13:07

bratnav · 22/07/2010 15:35

happygermanmum · 26/07/2010 12:44
