Europa Park - crazy during German Whitsun break?

We want to visit friends in Heidelberg, but also want to visit Europa Park, from 22nd May for a week. I've found out it is school holidays in Bade Wurtemmburg for two weeks then. Will Europa Park be awful? We really don't want to queue for everything for ages with ds who is 5 and dd,2. Anyone around there know?

yeah think it'll be busy cause its school hols for a lot of german regions in starting that week and its also a public holiday on monday 24th.

but i've not been as an adult (went on a school trip when i was 14!!!!) so not sure how busy it gets on school holidays but can imagine if its as busy as Playmobil land is then busy is the word!

Really? Oh bum. Really don't fancy waiting in queues for hours with small children. thanks though.

playmobil land is the absolute dogs bollocks esp for kids aged 5 and 2!! and its relatively cheap to get in - think its something like 7€ per person!

there arent any rides but there is un-ending playmobil for them to play with as well as loads of play areas, some rafting and loads of water areas (only good when its warm i imagine!!)

we've got friends coming in a couple of weeks and even tho the dd is 8, she'll still love it!

just looked it up - it looks great - but too far from where we are staying unfortunately.

We might try to brave Europa Park during the holidays. Really hope it isn't too crazy.

It is not just BW that have school holidays that week, Bayern does as well so the park could be busy. Definitely avoid on Monday, as nothing is open and so everyone will be looking for something to do.

There is a lovely Wildpark not far from Heidelberg, in Bad Mergentheim. About 45 mins drive I should think. The town of Bad Mergentheim is lovely too.

Are your DS interested in cars/planes? There is a technik museum in Sinsheim that is utterly fab.

ooh thanks Mme. The wildpark looks great. thanks for tip about monday. So annoying we've picked the week Germans on holiday. I wonder if we get there the thursday or friday before the holiday begins if it will be quieter?

By the way Mme we tried to book the Autozug for this summer from Dusseldorf to Italy and they quoted us 1500 quid for the return trip!!! Does this sound right? Only the rich can be environmentally friendly that way....

If you can go on Thursday or Friday, it will certainly be quieter. A lot of schools go on trips at that time of year so there might be some school classes.

The wild park is really good. We went there for DD's 7th birthday last year. The play park is fab - especially if your DC like to climb.

No idea about the autozug, have never tried to book but that does sound very expensive. You could drive down and stop several times overnight for a lot less.

Pofacedagain · 17/05/2010 22:20

yes i think we'll do the driving thing. Shame though - did fancy the train and poor old dh does so much driving.

We will definitely try to make the wild park - looks lovely.

I've no idea if Europa Park gets anything like Legoland. Poor ds had to wait in one queue for an hour and a half last june and he was only 4. Want to avoid that at all costs!

France has a car train service too, I just remembered seeing something about it on this website.

Booking ahead might be a way of getting cheaper tickets, we were not expensive for our train tickets to Paris, just €326 for all 4 of us from Geneva.

ZZZenAgain · 20/05/2010 08:30

don't think I could face the crush personally, dh took dd to Legoland but not on a public holiday and it was still very busy.
