Hi,
We may have the chance to move to Oz from Uk next year. I have 2 little ones (they will be almost 4 and 2) but I would need to keep working as a teacher...Could anyone fill me on cost of living, salary etc???

Hello, I am a primary school teacher and I live in Melbourne. I am not working as a teacher here though. I did work in Sydney before I had my dcs. As far as I know, each state has it's own website Victoria and when I was in Sydney I did a course and had an interview before I started teaching. They assess your qualifications and verify your CRB and whatnot. My friend is a primary art teacher here and she gets $60,000 a year and she works three days a week.

The cost of living is high in Australia I think. Most things are more expensive here. Meat, petrol and cars are cheaper but everything else is expensive. Our rent is astronomical, $850 a WEEK but we haven't sold our house in England. Your childcare costs would be quite high I suppose as children here don't start school until they are 5. My friends day care is $86 a day or $350 a week. Our primary school has good and cheap before and after care. It is @7 a session and starts at 7.30 in the morning and finishes at 6.30 at night. A lot of schools seem to have these. You will make friends here too so you do end up having people to help you if you need it.
