Anyone living in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa)?

My DH has been offered a contract there and we are giving it consideration.

We are busy doing research but I'm having trouble finding any information on family life in Addis Ababa and thought I'd ask here on the offchance someone has experience.

Hi Meid, I am in Nairobi but lived for 2 years in Addis. We had a ball and I absolutely loved it. It can be hard though for some people...... How old are your dc?

God, I'd love to live in Ethiopia.
Isn't there lots of cool Art Deco architecture there? Asloall that groovy Ethiopian big band stuff that so trendy now.
Those rock churches, that lovely squidgy sour pancake thing, the whole Rimbaud thing.

It's quite a surreal place...... the people are amazing but most live in abject poverty. The food quickly becomes something you long for after you leave - injera is the pancake and wat is the name for the various different stews.

The history is AMAZING and the place has a whole medieval feel, with donkeys and goats running around the place.

Google Lalibella, Gondar, Dire Dawa, The Danakil Depression, Lake Langano to give you a taster of things to do.

It sounds ace.I usedto go to an Ethipian restaurant in London a lot when a student. When I lived in Russia, I ha d acollague who had been an English tutor to Haile Selassie;s family. She hadsome amazibng photos.

My DH and I are going to google all the things mentioned.

Our children are aged 8 and 3.

The biggest dilemma we have is that we have only just moved from London to Johannesburg (where we are now) and the children have settled very well in their respective schools.
Although, we have told them we might move again and they don't seem phased by it - I think the feeling is that if we can do it once we can do it again.

I've emailed several of the international schools there to see if they have places and I'm busy researching what kind of things we might be able to do as a family.
