Christchurch NZ - schools and general advice

FouFoucault · 26/06/2009 11:37

We have the possibility of staying in Christchurch for 2-3 months next year. DH will be working at the university. Does anyone know how NZ schools would view having a child (age 6) attend school for a couple of months? And are there any good schools near to the university?
And any other advice?
Sorry for so many questions - am excited!

I used to live in Christchurch and did a postgrad diploma at the university there.

Not sure about how the school would view it, but as a Kiwi I generally think NZ schools are fairly flexible I could be wrong though!

My impression (from talking to parents when I was there) is that Ilam School (basically next to the university) is very nice, also Westburn School was not far away and had a good reputation. I'd call up Ilam School for a start and just ask them whether it'd be possible.

What time of year would you be going? if you like the outdoors then Chch is fantastic, there are loads of things to do quite close to the city. Skifields aren't far away either. City itself I find a bit quiet and flat, but for a few months that doesn't really matter.

Thank v much for your quick reply. I have just realised that is the middle of the night in NZ!
It would probably be March - May time so autumn/ winter. Haven't ski-ed for a long time but might give it a go. Would like to swim with dolphins, cycling etc.
That's really helpful to know about the schools.
