Brussels - tell me about schools and things

If we move to Brussels where do I send the kids to school? Does anyone know what the difference is between European Schools 1,2,3 and 4? And what should I do with the 3 year old who's too young for European school? Thanks in advance.

Hilton do have furnished apartments on Square Ambiorix which is in the EU district near Schuman. I bet they're not a patch on the Conrad though. There's lots going on round there during the week, but it is dead at the weekend. Ave Louise (where the Conrad is) is home to the Posh shops.

Rue de Bailli and Place du Chatelaine is filled with lots of small trendy shops and restaurants and i think there is a market during the week. Rue Neuve is the Oxford Street equivilent with all the big chains. I work not far from there so would love to meet up for a coffee if you're down town one day.

Yes - imho - Marolini chocs are definately yum.

The conrad stopped stocking The Bulletin but do get a copy as there's a whats on section. It's out on thursday. Lunch in the Pain Quotidien in Sablon is nice (but busy) there are loads of nice lunch places.

Shuffles off to put in her application for a job back in Brussels.

Mary's chocolates better than Marcolini IMHO.

Gosh Brussels is expensive! The rack rate for the hotel room is 749 euros a night, but we have got a much better rate for 6 months. A spag bol for lunch, 18 euros without bread or salad or wine, just the bol, breakfast in the hotel was 38 euro, but it was good, the most divine smoked salmon!

Portoeufino · 06/04/2009 12:05

18 euros for a Spag Bol? Where was this? There are much better bargains to be had. Try www.resto.be.

This reminds me, I was going to try and book a room in the Conrad next week with my Hilton points as we are child free for a couple of days! Yipee. It seems strange to book a hotel that is less than 10 miles from home, but if it doesn't cost anything....And we can sample the "delights" of downtown without having to rush home for the babysitter.

Ooh Porto, lovely! DH and I used to go to the Conrad quite a lot as one of our friends used to work there and so we would get fab rooms plus chocs and champers for about 40 euros We were devastated when he left

Have a fab time won't you!

Are we all going to think about doing a meet up at some point? It would be great to put faces to 'names'...
