There was a thread a few months back, which I can't find now, which recommended a type of broker that could transfer funds from UK abroad which were cheaper than the usual route of a bank.

Can anyone recommend someone that does this?

TIA

I think I've heard of transferring money by paypal?

is that an option?

howdoo · 21/01/2009 20:01

We have done it via First Direct who were cheaper than the brokers - our currency exchance broker couldn't match the First Direct rate, and he said that FD were known for it. Not sure if you need a FD bank account tho.

I forgot about this. Thanks.

From what I've read paypal works out expensive. I'll have a google at First Direct.

It depends on where you are sending it. To do it by HSBC to a bank in Austrlaia is 25 pounds but if I send a UK cheque its AU$15. I just send a cheque these days.

Caxton fx- were great for us. Got an excellent exchange rate- you can send them your money, and leave it with them until the exchange rate is the one you want if you want to do that (though obviously prob not these days with pound so dire)
