It has just hit me that we are moving to NZ in less than 2 weeks. I think I'm pretty organised but I am worrying about everything it is possible to worry about, any tips to get me through the next couple of months?

Three words:

Seat back Video

Let them go into an alpha state watching Finding Nemo over and over and over and over again.

Ds never watches TV. He watched around 10 hours straight on one leg of the journey (most of it Dora the Explorer). Between eating and watching TV the trip passed uneventfully.

The nightmare was the 14 hour stopover - you don't have this.

the time's gone really fast, hasn't it? I don't have any tips sorry, this is last minute panic house and I'm not the least bit organised really.

The flight is horrendous of course but hey so is childbirth and you got through that! I think the trick is to try and get ds to watch the onboard film and maybe pack a few story tapes he doesn't know yet so he can listen to them. He will hopefully sleep some of the way.

So is the nursery sorted then? I saw you were asking about it but didn't catch whether you had a definite place anywhere.

Well, we survived the flight! ds was either asleep or watching peter pan so he was fine, I was ok although my feet were soooo swollen for a couple of days.

We had a lovely day in Auckland and Devonport before we flew down to Christchurch. Introduced ds to steak and cheese pies and hokey pokey ice cream. Christchurch is brill, our flat is fine, really good location for buses, uni, shops. Weather is a bit dodgy so far, either too hot or raining but we found a giant paddling pool so ds is happy. My neighbours are a bit strange, they don't seem to spend any time at home and don't even sleep there most nights so I'm all alone which is a bit spooky. Still finding our way around and it's all a bit new but sort of familiar too which is weird but I feel like I've made the right decision. Can't wait to start uni and get ds settled into preschool!

Hi beansmum
Glad to hear you survived and are settling in ok. I'm just curious - what part of town is your flat in, and what are you going to be studying? I lived in Chch for 5 years and did some study at the uni there too

Check out Orana Park (wildlife) if you haven't already (assuming you have a car) - they used to have annual passes at a fairly reasonable price, great for taking kids to.
