Hi all

I'll kick off

Hi there, I'm ClaudiaShiffer, I have two daughers and live in Adelaide, I am a Pom and have been here for 2 yrs. Mostly loving it. DH is an Aussie and is beyond delighted to be back in Oz after 10yrs in the UK.

I've left it too late to join you this time, but maybe we can do drinks in the New Year? I'm way up in the sticks in St. Ives so maybe somewhere in the city/Darling Harbour?

suzywong · 22/12/2008 07:47

hey Oliveoil should be here soon, well she's here in Perth just not anywhere that has electricity, clearly

HURRY UP OO!

ghosty · 22/12/2008 08:35

sibble Hellllllllooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
Haven't spoken for ages .... we are around from now until 8th Jan (away for a week in QLD) so let's make sure we book in a phone call.
echt where in Melbourne do you live and why have you not come to our meeet ups???? Hmmm? my email address is ghostyandmeg1(at)bigpond(dot)com .... we try to meet up once a month with kids and once every 3 months without kids (DCsnatch made us go the Casino last time - she's all class )
savoycabbage drop me a line when you get here - happy to meet up when you are

echt · 22/12/2008 09:53

Ghosty- I live in the Bayside area and have no idea how I've missed the meet ups. Yonks ago I posted about the difficulties of working full-time and still being a part of a circuit. I was once a member of a swish ex-pats group who were nice folks, but not in work, so I felt not quite like them, and the impetus of work took over. But there you go. A reason, but not an excuse.
Delighted to have your mail and will post.

lulalullabye · 22/12/2008 19:23

Hi, we have only 3 wks now until we leave for Melbourne. We are getting excited but I will be much more relaxed when shipment gone and bags packed !!

Looking forward to hopefully meeting y'all.

ninedragons · 22/12/2008 23:28

Ah yes, moving. It fucking sucks.

I'm a veteran of many international moves and I have always been tempted to make sure our insurance is up to date, burn all our stuff and buy new stuff at our destination.

ghosty · 23/12/2008 00:04

I'm with you there ninedragons ... DH has suggested similar several times ...

buzzybee · 23/12/2008 07:03

Hi, another kiwi here in Wellington, NZ. Born here, lived London 2.5 years, back 6 years now (yikes is it that long?!!) 2 DDs aged almost 7 and almost 1 (in 1 week!!!) Don't have any major tips for settling back in - I bought a house which helped but there were so many things going on in my life at the time that missing Kings Rd wasn't an issue. So maybe the answer is to keep busy!!

Astrophe · 23/12/2008 07:13

Hi everyone! I am Astrophe, I was born in London, raised in Sydney, just flew back to Sydney after living in Derby for 3 years.

Married to an Aussie, I have DD 4.5, DS 2.5 and am 10 weeks pregnant with number 3.

Merry Christmas all, lets keep our fingers crossed for a lovely warm summery day on which to eat mangoes, cherries and prawns...mmmm

Astrophe · 23/12/2008 07:16

(SunnyDelight! Hi!)

echt · 23/12/2008 09:03

Lulalullabye - have fab UK Christmas. I remember well how the last days of packing, making list and so on seemed endless. The summer has arrived at last and the Christmas barbie looks like a possibility at last - pissed down and freezing the first time, away in Malaysia the second. Third time lucky.

sunnydelight · 23/12/2008 09:04

Hey, you're home Astrophe - I feel like we really should meet each other after all these years Congrats on the pregnancy btw! Where are you living? Not sure if I still have CAT, maybe we could sort a coffee some time after Christmas?

Astrophe · 23/12/2008 10:57

Sounds good sunnydelight, although I am pretty puke-some with this baby, so it may be a few weeks until I am up to it. I am in Neutral Bay for now, with the folks. It would be great to met you

ninedragons · 23/12/2008 12:44

Hooray! A preggers one! Hello Designated Driver.

I am in Birchgrove and Brightongirl is in Rozelle. Arfishy is in one of the beachy suburbs but overseas atm and Violent Femme is inner city but I think was planning to move. We had an excellent meet-up in June and drank each other under the table.

ninedragons · 23/12/2008 12:59

Shall we say mid-January? I have PILs here then and would happily chew my own leg off for the chance to go out on the lash alone.

israel · 26/12/2008 21:22

Hi...
I'm in Perth Western Australia.
This is now our fifth year...and my family and I will become fully fledged ozzies on Australia day....in January....09
Originaly from Lancashire.
Is there anyone else in Perth?
I know suzywong was here..is she still?

AdventFemme · 27/12/2008 11:37

Hello it's ViolentFemme here.

Ex Scotland now in Sydney (moving back north shore mid-Jan hurrah!).

I have one 18 month mental monkey boy ds whom I would currently sell for a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio.

DH is a sahd who would sell ds for a glass of cheap plonk.

Did someone mention a meet up?

FFS enough talk about it let's get on with it! I have a friend with a three month old who really really needs a night out.

Been here six months and I f*cking love it.

brightongirldownunder · 28/12/2008 04:46

Hello there VF, long time eh..?!
Sorry about pre xmas piss up ND - had a bitch of a week, what with packing up etc. I move 6 jan so hows about we all meet up the week after? In dire need of cocktails! Arf should be back too.

ninedragons · 28/12/2008 06:07

Don't worry, BG.

I am about to have the reverse bitch week of my own unpacking, as our container is apparently at the dock, through Customs and will be delivered some time this week.

That was pretty quick. They mustn't have found the feather lampshades and antique rattan suitcases I forgot were in there until yesterday. Naughty naughty!

Any day after the 16th would be good for me. DH has a gigantic deadline then and won't be any good for babysitting. Plus PILs arrive on the 17th and it would be a shame to waste an evening out when I'm not wanting to avoid anyone.

I got a sneak peek at the NYE stuff last night - couldn't sleep so at 2am was on the balcony and they were testing the lights on the Harbour Bridge. A big red blob is the centrepiece of the fireworks, it seems.

eidsvold · 28/12/2008 06:20

israel - suzy is still here and arfishy is back from old blighty.

brightongirldownunder · 28/12/2008 12:18

Already, ND?
You lucky bugger! It took 4 months for ours to arrive!

ninedragons · 28/12/2008 12:48

I was shocked, actually.

I thought all the ships coming from China would be full of plasma televisions and Jamie Durie solar-powered garden lights that play "Oh My Darling Clementine" at dusk and the trillion other bits of crap that are fuelling China's 9% p.a. economic growth.

But it turns out they squeezed our stuff on amongst it all. I can't say I'm looking forward to unpacking. Five weeks was just long enough to get used to the serious minimalist lifestyle, and now I think I like it.

brightongirldownunder · 28/12/2008 12:50

Grins at the thought of ND being surrounded by Chinese electronic tripe....

arfishy · 28/12/2008 19:06

Hellooo!! I am back from blighty indeed. Very jetlagged and back at work this morning, hence immediate logon to mumsnet. Today at least I woke up at 3am instead of 2am so there is some improvement.

Welcome to all of the incomers. Isn't it lovely and hot! I nearly froze to death in England and then really suffered with the central heating inside. I can clearly never go back.

I am arfishy, 2 DSS - 22 and 17 and DD - 6. I am in Coogee. We're looking for a new place too as the DSSs are here now and we are all jemmied into this house. I need a pool so I can compete with the mums at school and a granny flat for the eldest and his friend who is also staying with us.

We've been here for nearly 4 years and this month I must start the agonising process of applying for PR. So I'll be needing a drink.

Congrats on the shipment NineDs. I've just sent some stuff back from England, nothing important like furniture/DD's birth cert or anything. REALLY important stuff like most of the contents of Lakeland. Doubt it will be here for aeons though.

Grr at your evil landlord BGDU.

Astrophe · 29/12/2008 06:50

well, let me kow when the meet up will be, and I will come if not puking.

OUr shipment has arrived too!!!!! It has my kids Christmas pressies in it (Playmobil from the UK...far out it is SOOOO expensive here!) Also all our clothes...have been living in 2 tops and 1 bra since we got here 3 weeks ago.

Unfortunately we are staying with my folks at the mo, so no space to unpack anything until DH finds a job and we find a house...ho hum.
