Current laws on bringing meat to France from the UK

Hi there

We are spending Christmas in France and some english friends in our village have asked us to bring a Christmas turkey and some sausages, bacon and other meat products over for them when we drive.

I know during the Foot and Mouth time, the import of all meat and dairy items were forbidden but is it true that this ban has now been lifted?

I have looked on the DEFRA website but it only gives accurate info for importing things into the UK and advises people to contact the relevant departments in foreign countries for up to date rulings.

Anyone know the answer or have any idea where I would find this info on the web?

Thanks in advance!

What's wrong with French turkeys?

Sorry that sounded a bit rude. I am trying to see if I can find the info for you. I understand there is a difference between English bacon and the stuff you get over here but I am surprised about the turkey.

She's a bit of an oddbod, I have to say. We are spending Christmas in France and buying our stuff over there! She has a thing about english traditions and is convinced she wants an english turkey. no idea why.

Thanks so much for helping though!

French customs

So far all I've found out is that you need to get the meat checked out if it is coming from outside the EU.

Doesn't mention meat coming from within EU.

How about the ferry company or eurotunnel site?

Thanks for your help. I emailed this morning the email address mentioned in your first link so am awaiting their response.

Have emailed ferry companies too!
