Hi, We have some friends who live in Hong Kong, they are having an engagement party here in Adelaide on Saturday and marrying in Thailand next Feb. Anyway we and some other chums can't make it to the wedding - too poor so would like to buy them something nice instead.

However, they are obv only here for a short time, and then will be returning to Honkers, so we don't want to get them anything too big - Olympic Trampolines will be out. Sooooo . . . I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas for wedding/engagement gifts that aren't too big and bulky or those of you who know HK, maybe we could buy them a night in a swanky resort or fancy restaurant???

I know it's a long shot but Ninedragons - are you there? Do you know of anywhere suitably fancy? There will be at least 3 couples putting into this gift so we can affort to buy something 'nice'.

Thanks x

Hello!

You can buy anything on earth in Hong Kong.

If you want to really push the boat out, a night or a weekend package at The Peninsula is really something special. They do airport transfers in their big green Rolls Royce and the chauffeur in his full white uniform takes your luggage to the check-in desk, which makes you feel very special indeed.

The restaurant on the top floor of the Peninsula is called Felix and is also rather lovely. If your budget doesn't quite run to that (especially with the AUD getting a hammering against the USD/HKD), the Peak Cafe is cheaper but a great place for a celebration.

The Tiffany branch on Des Voeux Rd has the full range of vases and glassware and so forth, and the staff are extremely helpful - I am sure if you rang them and paid by credit card they would deliver your gift to the couple once they are back in HK.

Where in Thailand are they getting married? I know some pretty good restaurants there too!

oo thanks ninedragons

Tiffanys , am all distracted by choosing which stack of celebration rings to buy. [in my dreams emoticon].

Also the hotel looks amazing thank you - will pass it on to the others.

They are marrying in Cap Sol Villa, nr Phuket. D'you know it?

I did exactly the same with the celebrations ring and ended up wishing my fingers were longer so I could fit more on!

I don't know that particular hotel, but do you think they would appreciate a spa package? Every good hotel in Thailand does an absolutely blindingly excellent spa. They may already have booked that themselves, though.

I'd go with a night or two at the Peninsula, if it's within budget. We had our wedding night there and stayed there for our last few days in Hong Kong and it's just magical.
