australia temp resident and rent..

does anyone know anything about a way to reclaim rent stuff through tax when you are a temp resident? long shot but been mentioned by a friend so looking to see if anyone else has doneit? looked at living away from home allowance but this seems to be paid by your employer?

any ideas???

Lots of our friends are here on 457s and the only thing I have ever heard about regarding offsetting rent against tax is through LAFHA. This is something that you need to negotiate with your employer (there is no right to it) and because it forms part of your package is generally done before you start (I'm not sure if it HAS to be though). There are set limits for different things that you can claim. Have a look on britishexpats.com it's often a subject of discussion there.
