I just can't get my head round the logistics! I know nothing about the US school system. dd and I aren't the healthiest of people so I'm panicking about healthcare, we know our house won't sell at the moment and I've been in my fab new job less than 3 weeks after a 2 year career break!!! The timing is terrible but its a good promotion and he's being headhunted for the first time and would be so squashed if we didn't take this opportunty.

So... his collegue from the US is coming round to the house tomorrow after work to talk to me about relocating (he is from the UK and moved last yr) What should I be asking?????????

Something else to think about is how you will spend your time. It's worth looking at online groups and start posting on them now (Google stay at home mommas, boulder mommas, that kind of thing) to work out where there are mums at home with their children.

I did a reccy some years ago for a move to the US that fortunately didn't come off (didn't like the city). I realised that where we would end up living would be a suburb where the mums worked full time and the children were in daycare. It was quite different to my life here where there are a lot of mums at home, music groups, swimming classes, going for coffee, etc. When I did chat to some women it turned out most of their friends were from their church which is not our thing. I really couldn't work out what I would do with the children (who were preschoolers) or how I would integrate into the community.

Sorry, that sounds a bit negative but it was something I hadn't really considered before we got there and was quite a shock.
