Oh Lord, I am so shallow but . . . Grazia magazine has arrived in Australia. This is the one mag that I missed from the UK, I am beyond delighted that it has been launched here.

Mind you it's still full of the same old fluffy shite it ever was. Kate Moss yawn yawn. BUT some nice clothes - particularly Wheels and Dollbaby top on p89 .

I'd let you off Eids because you used the 'crossword puzzle at station' disclaimer. But double points for extra swotty research.

I'm also off to the toy sales tomorrow SuperLoopy. I have a dawn raid planned after I drop DD off at school (at 8.15, so early enough to be clawing at the doors before they open). Thankfully I don't need anything that's going to involve scrapping.

eidsvold · 23/07/2008 03:24

Oh did I not tell you ladies that if you want something in bulk - like a trampoline as we did - I could pre order it - fill in a form, tick for it to go on layby and all I have to do is pick up layby docket by 4 Aug! Trampoline sorted - no argy bargy, no dragging the dds out.

claudiaschiffer · 23/07/2008 03:34

oo really? where from? I want to get the kids a swing set for crimbo - but am too lazy busy to get it at the moment.

target are having a big sale starting tomorrow but prior to that point - could get big stuff ordered etc. You probably can still do it.

I got a second hand one that someone had given me - Hills swing set - good one and I just bought new plastic seats for it.

Toyworld have the hills ones as well - very good.

superloopy · 23/07/2008 07:53

Ok now I feel I have achieved something today... I went to Target and rainchecked a 12ft trampoline for xmas and bought my copy of Grazia.
It is just like the UK version but with Aussie advertisments in it.
Now I'm happy!

arfishy · 23/07/2008 11:14

Eids you were lovely as usual and warned us all (although ClaudiaS was clearly not paying attention ).

This year I don't need any big stuff (trampoline last year) and so I'm just armed and ready to get general stuff like board games and jumbo craft sets (am buying for all friends children not just DD). Last year I was a bit casual about it and went in a day or so into the sale and some of the things I wanted were already sold out. So this year I'm taking no chances and getting in at opening time armed with a cattleprod.

eidsvold · 23/07/2008 12:55

Super I am so sad that I was sooo excited when dh told me about it - no need for a cattle prod!!

eidsvold · 23/07/2008 12:56

superlooopy - I am heading to your neck of the woods next week. A flying visit - in on Tues, out Thurs for my grandmother's funeral

eidsvold · 24/07/2008 07:14

wonders how arfishy got on at the toy sale.

Was very surprised - wandered in to see about a car seat for one of the dds and our local target was not very busy at all around 9.30ish.

superloopy · 24/07/2008 08:38

I went back to Target for the second day in a row and it was a little bit feral. Very long queues for everything.
I managed to get a couple of birthday presents I was after and bike trailer.
I then spent the afternoon riding round the park with DD and DS in the triler. It was so much fun!

superloopy · 24/07/2008 08:41

Oh and Eidsvold if you were coming to Melb for any other reason I would suggest tea and cake but I imagine you will be spending time with family.
Sorry to hear about your Grandmother.

eidsvold · 24/07/2008 22:26

super - it really is a flying visit - land afternoon Tues, funeral wed, back thursday lunchtime. Yess - my mum is now an orphan. Her father passed away a few years ago and her mum this week.

arfishy · 25/07/2008 00:39

Eids - sorry about your grandmother.

The toy sale was feral. I caught grandmothers rummaging through my trolley and it was so full I caught a staff member wheeling it off thinking it was replacement stock .

But I did buy Christmas presents for every single child I know. Woo-hoo! And I managed to dissuade DD from the hideous Barbie $250 plastic dolls house monstrosity and get her to agree to ask santa for a tasteful cheaper wooden one instead.

Two of the things DD wanted (Mousetrap and Garden Girlz Mansion (a really good flower growing thing)) were already "out of stock" by 9.30am. So I had to raincheck them, but at least I'll have them by Christmas.

I also managed to get a couple of birthday presents. I put the whole lot on layby and will forget all about them until December.

I also bought a copy of Grazia courtesy of this thread to read while I was trying to recover from the trauma of the 800 trolleys in the tiny aisles with a gigantic piece of chocolate cake.

eidsvold · 25/07/2008 01:45

Ours did not seem like that - usually it is feral in the morning and then again in the evening when the workers pile in after work. I could not believe how quiet it was at 9.30ish and then again last night when I went to buy some thermal underwear for melbourne!

Now you have had a real aussie experience

I love the put it away and not worry about it until December. I have worked out I will pay about 10 - 15 bucks a week until christmas eve - that will be 2 bikes( birthday presents), trampoline and christmas for my three and my nieces and nephew all sorted.

eidsvold · 25/07/2008 01:46

oh yes dd2 was asking for the ridiculously expensive Dora the Explorer castle/house thing - which only came with two people. I told her grandad could make her a lovely wooden one that mummy could paint and they could help me choose all the decorations for much cheaper than that plastic one. Phew - she agreed.

MrsJohnCusack · 25/07/2008 01:55

Oh sorry to hear about you grandmother Eidsvold

I wonder if we're going to have Grazia here too? will go and have a look tomorrow when child free

I got a trampoline and surround for DD at half price in the sales, but it's pissed down more or less non stop since then so she's only been on it about twice. Still, it's hiding most of our garden which is good because it looks like crap in the winter

I'm going to Melbourne for 4 day ON MY OWN at the end of Sept to meet Califrau, will have to look up who are the other Melbourne mumsnetters. My first time in Oz

eidsvold · 25/07/2008 02:00

thank you all - she was 93 1/2 had been ill for a while and so it was a matter of time but it is still sad when it happens.

claudiaschiffer · 26/07/2008 00:52

Also sorry to hear about your grandmother Eidsvold - how is your mum?

Not yet faced the Toy Sales. I think the children will just have to get nowt for crimbo this year. I will tell them all about the over commercialisation of the season, they are 3 and 1 so will obviously take that message to heart .

Grazia + chocolate cake sounds tremendous arfishy. A few years ago had dinner with a very senior member of Grazia Oz staff, she spent about an hour telling me and dh how >ahem< oral sex, with her bf always left her with a pube stuck down her throat . I had never met her before! Honestly she went on for AGES about it. I wasn't sure how to react. It was all very Sex and the City I suppose, but poor DH was aghast.

She brought me round a whole pile of WHOs today to keep me occupied as I have broken my foot and am in plaster - she's a legend and a true diamond as she also brought me a pile of top vids (Bridget Jones Diary, Pretty Woman, Ricky Gervais Live, Dirty Dancing and Ghost to mention a few) and lunch today too ...
