oh I see. Would have been too hot for you anyway!

Wonder how finks' holiday is going.

Was also wondering that - and thinking we haven't heard from Ernest in ages - was she planning a trip back home? And Berolina and her Kita troubles, wonder if she found a new one?

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 10:31

Ernest must have her hands full with the baby. Sounded like she was liking Munich though.

Was thinking the other day we have to be careful not to push Bero over the edge with too much depressing stuff and horror stories, sounds like she needs a bit of fun these days. I'm sure the KG thing will work out, the KG are mostly ok I think but it's tough having to go back to work when you aren't ready for it.

THink I'm going to have to go out and buy a Neil DIamond CD. THe more I listen to him, the more I love his voice.

Mind you whilst youtubing this morning, I heard Elvis doing Sweet Caroline and that was amazing too. He had a fabulous voice. I just didn't like some of the tinkly stuff but I think that was all from his films, not his own taste. I had the hairs stand up all over my back (not that I have a fur or anything but you know what I mean) listening to him sing "How great thou art"

I love deep male voices. Before dd was born and I was idling working at this research institute, I had to call a prof in Ireland regularly and he had the most beautiful voice, he'd say "Oh hello there SSSandy" and I'd go off in a daze, went right through me, you know, and I'd forget to answer!

I remember watching all his old films when we were at mygrans house. There was always a really old film on at weekends so we sat through all teh Elvis ones, the Shirley Temple collection and even Cliff Richard films! this is what we should be listening to now

That Elvis song is lovely.

Just had a call to say the school bus is stuck in Stau at Magdeburg, I hope it isn'tgoing to hold them up too long. Is their a good website to look up traffic jams in Germany?

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 10:57

PMSL at Cliff! Do you know, I think I want to LIVE in one of those clean and happy films. Now how sad is that? Think I'd choose to live in "Three coins in the fountain". I always think Cliff's voice sounds like he's really thoroughly cleaned his teeth. I know that sounds stupid, I don't even know why I think that, maybe he articulates a bit too crisply?

Ah we love you anyway Cliff

Don't know about the jams. Could you google Verkehrsmeldung Deutschland and see if a site comes up? Info Radio only has Berlin I think but they might mention the Stau Magdeburg-Berlin.

I wonder if watching all those squeaky clean films as a child has somehow affected how I am now? You have to be really carefull what you allow youngsters to watch you know - exactly the same reason why I am not giving dd my old collection of Enid Blyton's Malory Towers!

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 11:04

I know what you mean, I think when dd says she wants to live in England, she thinks she'll be living in Kirrin Cottage with a dog called Timmy and an Aunt Fanny baking scrumptious things and it will all be very jolly

admylin · 11/07/2008 11:07

According to the Staumeler that I just saw theer's Stau just about everywherer! Great help. I'm going in an hour anyway as ds is setting up his game thing at the Sommerfest at school so I'll help him and keep a watch out for the bus pulling up. I got a letter yesterday from dd, she wrote that breakfast was OK lunch was bad and Abendessen was OK! She has been riding on a horse called Beethoven and he is sometimes 'bockig'!

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 11:10

duh duh duh DAAAAAAAAAAAA

They weren't very clever taking the dc outside Berlin just when the school holidays are starting. They might have taken it into account that the roads back to BErlin would all be jam-packed. Our class trip was weeks ago come to think of it

I just did this Einbürgerungtest for Germany and got 28 out of 33 points und somit konnte ich deutsche werden!

magazine.web.de/de/themen/nachrichten/quiz/6254946.html

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 11:25

yahoo! Me too, got 31, I can become German, ha! move over Angela Merkel. Maybe we should in fact even be running the country. I didn't know how many Bundesländer there were though, just made a guess ,no idea if it was right, I said 17. Some of those choices are funny like the first one something like, "welche Rechte gibt es in Deutschland - Faustrecht"! Or what about "Alexander will nicht in die Armee, was kann er machen?" And they have as option "sich freikaufen"!

OP posts:
taipo · 11/07/2008 11:33

Wayhay, I got 30! All is not lost. But then I did do a German degree so I should have got them all right I suppose... I wonder what I'd get for an equivalent Britishness test.

admylin · 11/07/2008 11:34

I was surprised at the amount of Hitler related questions too . The Turks have an option to freikaufen from their military service. I just did the Bundesländer with ds for school but couldn't remember how many there are [shame].

admylin · 11/07/2008 11:35

See I came last, my heart just isn't in it!

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 11:39

Nice to see some fellow Germans posting.

Well, what gets me is whenever there is discussion about Einbürgerung, you always get them interviewing Germans who say "ooh those questions are so difficult and even as a German I could never pass that test" and I'm wondering now, why not? I mean you'd have to get maybe half right. Some things you could guess, like how many Bundesländer or how many millions of people live here or whatever and if you were really stumped well some things are so obviously going to be wrong, aren't they? So it's a process of elimination.

Actually I thought it would be Was ist die Hauptstadt von NRW? And which river flows through Dresden? Things I wouldn't have been able to answer.

I can't wait any longer, I'm off to stand at school and wait for my dd to arrive. If I try will power they might get here soon!

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 11:40

I vote we should all treat ourselves to the most calorie intensive pastry we can find in our local bakery!

Admylin you get 3 extra points for finding Cliff

taipo · 11/07/2008 11:41

I got the one about the date when the Bundesrepublik was founded wrong. I thought it was 1945. Made a couple of lucky guesses too and others I got right because there was only one answer that was at all possible.

admylin · 11/07/2008 11:42

Lol, it is an improvement on Heino!!

taipo · 11/07/2008 11:43

I've been out all morning and when I return I find you've been talking about Cliff Richard! Actually I bet Cliff would have been a big Volksmusik star if he'd been German. I will catch up on the Elvis and Neil Diamond links later.

SSSandy2 · 11/07/2008 11:44

how do you know which ones you got wrong taipo? I didn't see that mentioned. I put 1945 for the Bundesrepublik too, so it was 1949 then?

OP posts:
taipo · 11/07/2008 11:46

You can click on a link which shows the right answers. It doesn't show you which ones you actually got wrong though. I couldn't remember what I'd put for several of them as I had just guessed.

admylin · 11/07/2008 20:53

Dd back safe and sound, was very relieved to have her back! She was hungry though poor thing, they had sent them off after breakfast with no packed lunch or anything for the bus trip and they didn't arrive 'til nearly 2pm.

taipo · 11/07/2008 21:20

Glad to hear she's back safely, admylin. Bit mean not to provide anything for lunch, or at least a mid-morning snack. Has she told you much about the trip?
