Living in Luxembourg

MsBubbles85 · 10/04/2026 22:34

Does anyone have experience living in Luxembourg working for the European Institutions? I could have the option of moving there but would like to hear from people living there.
I'm an EU national living in London, my DH is English and we have a 3 year old.
Thank you!

I have worked in Luxembourg several times, although not for any EU institutions. I used to stay just over the border in Germany (and was there again recently).
I like Lux a lot, French food and German orderliness. BUT it is quite expensive (except for petrol and spirits).
Excellent infrastructure, I understand that all public transport is free now.
Housing is at a premium, however a colleague of mine and her Dutch boyfriend bought a house just over the Moselle in Germany, which was much cheaper. Driving time to Kirchberg is around 30 minutes.
Other, French, colleagues have commuted from Thionville or Arlon (Belgium).
The country itself is pretty, clean and very safe, plus you are well located for trips to other countries/areas. I found the people very pleasant, too and love the mix of languages.
