Account for UK rental money

Does anyone live abroad, basically permanently, but get UK rental income? Do you have your old UK bank accounts still (that’s what we currently do, via my parents' address) or do you get it paid into a bank in your new country, or do you use a newfangled online account thingy? This is where I’d need advice!

I’m worried our bank will discover and decide we are no longer entitled to the accounts if not UK residents for the past 15 or so years and close them.

Any recommendations?

I live overseas and keep a UK bank account for my finances relating to my UK rental property. The rent is paid into that account and all expenses related to the property come out of it. My bank has my overseas address, no problem about having the account.

That's essentially what we do, and we also use it for online shopping in the UK (birthdays and Christmas etc for family there) but using my folks' address... so the bank don't know I'm here...! I started to worry.

Most banks are fine with overseas adresses on existing accounts, they just won’t let you open any new ones if you aren’t resident in the UK. We’re in France and we ‘came clean’ after about vs 7 years here: we didn’t want anyone to have to clean up a financial mess if anything dire happened to us - we had rental flats in the UK and hasn’t realised we should have been declaring the income in France as well. so we updated all address and contact details plus regularised the tax situation.

Both nationwide and MBNA were fine to change our address.

I had Barclays accounts, which Barclays closed after Brexit. I now use Revolut, which has a Pound Stirling 'wallet' with a UK sort code and account number. It works fine, although I would have preferred a UK-based bricks and mortar bank.

Yes, it was things like Revolut that I was wondering about. Whether that's better....
but it seems OK to stick with what we have, then!
Thanks.

We use HSBC Global- we have accounts in UK, UAE and Expat. Our rental income doesn't originate in the UK but it's paid into our UK account. Our salaries are paid locally.
