Hello!

Can I maintain a UK house address while being abroad? So that I receive paper mail from important services like pension providers etc?

Thank you!

That depends on your situation. How long are you abroad for and do you own a house or know anyone who will take post in for you? If not you'd need one of those postal services that either forwards your mail for you or scans it for you to read at your convenience.

If you have a house here then of course. Is the issue that you won't have an address here?

Yes.

You would need to have someone willing to allow you use their postal address/post box, Or give someone keys to your owned property
Or even pay rent on a property,
And have someone collect and forward the mail.
Or pay for a PO box or letter forwarding service.

Having a "UK home address" may result in different UK tax rules applying to your non UK income.

Not what you are asking but why not just go online for things like pension etc, most companies have portals for easy/remote access

We forward everything to family as our house is rented out - have a long running Royal Mail redirect

conversant · 03/07/2025 07:03

Thank you but I dont have a relative to accept my mail.

I need a company to do that for me but it needs to be reliable and trustworthy.

Any recommendation?

I am relocating abroad for years and I wont continue renting in the UK of course.

Why can't you give pension etc a non UK address? I assume that is what most people do.

potatotomata · 04/07/2025 05:40

You could potentially get a PO Box then setup redirect to your overseas address?

Ohthatsabitshit · 04/07/2025 05:51

Lots of people still have property (rented or owned) while they live overseas. You can always pay for a PO Box if you just want to receive your mail but won’t have an address. What are you trying to achieve?

I run a business and use a service called 1st formations, all of my post goes there and gets scanned and emailed to you, there isn’t much at all but it saves me changing business address over the years. Maybe that would cater for personal mail as well? Or there must be a similar service.

You can get your pension stuff etc sent to a non-UK address.
