Would be grateful for advice from people who live in Portugal.

Can you buy a property in Portugal without habitation license?

We purchased a property, got the mortgage, deeds, etc but the solicitor didn’t send us the habitation license. Have asked but no reply yet

Wondering if there is something dodgy going on. It is a new building, respectable developer, agency and lawyers. I imagine the mortgage would not have been granted without a license.

Habitation licenses can take ages to come through from the Council here, that said I would be surprised if the Solicitor agreed for the deed of completion if it was still outstanding. I would push the solicitor for an answer, if they are still waiting for it then they should be able to produce paperwork on the subject from the Council. At least then you would have the reassurance that it will be with you at some point.
