So what's Toronto like for an extended stay???

More than likely I will be joining DH in Toronto next month. He's not gone yet, but will be there for around 5 months. I've not yet decided whether to go for the whole period, but will definitely spend some time there, and longer than the average holiday.

Hope some of you can help with a few practical questions. The burning one for me is: what infant formulas are avail in Canada?? Can you get Aptamil?

Also: any tips to keep me gainfully entertained in Toronto with my 4 month DD, while DH slaves works.

Toronto is a pretty easy city, and if you're there for the summer, that'll be easier. What part of town will you be in?

Not sure yet, only just figuring it out with his work. Any recommendations or no-gos?

Well, with a 4-month-old, hard to say. I think the tube (subway) there is v pram friendly. If you like driving, maybe you want to be further out? You can basically choose between central, where there are more neighbourhoods, or a more authentic North American experience by living further out, driving, and going to shopping malls. (I am probably biaised.)

There's a great park at Dufferin Grove, in town, but given your baby might be walking near the end of it ... well, you might enjoy the neighbourhood.

Do you know what part of town your DH will be working in?

I went to live around Toronto for 3 years as a nanny and I loved it

I lived in GEORGETOWN, MILTON CAMBRIDGE AND THEN BACK TO MILTON

The Georgetown/milton area has grown lots since I was living there

So basically I would live anywhere around OAKVILLE NORTHWARDS to Milton/Gorgetown

They all have trains into Toronto or you can easily drive on 401 or QEW

Great shopping in Mississgua but I don't think nessarcarly a community for living in

Oakville nea rthe Lake - pretty but expensive houses

We just spent 10 days in Toronto waiting for visa approval to go to the States, and I'm afraid I found it really boring! However we were staying in a hotel and also loads of things were still shut for the winter season. I imagine that summer is a lot more fun. Area wise we were thinking of the Beaches (we previously had to chose between NY and Toronto so did a bit of research then)

I think Toronto is a dull dull city tbh.

Re baby milk FF they don't sell any of the makes from the u.k, we ended up having ours shipped here just couldn't get on with the canadian stuff.

I found baby clothes here really expensive and thats the cheap stuff (cheroke,George) so i would make sure you stock up before you come.

You are going to love the summer here, seems to have started already and will continue prob till end september.
