Moving back to Australia - where on earth do you start?

Hi,

I posted a while back about moving back to Oz from UK, and it is going to happen, I would do it tomorrow but am completely petrified about where to start!

We have a house we can move into, and have checked out schools in the area, but just the logistics even at this early stage are sending me into a cold sweat.

How do you get organised?

Are there any websites out there to help expats moving back?

Thx

Relocation companies will usually have checklists that they will give to you when they come around to give you a quote for removal. Perhaps if you have a look on their websites they have something already there. Here is the Wridgeways site.

I imagine Visas aren't a problem.

What can sometimes be a hassle is the gap between your stuff being packed up and it being delivered to your house in Oz - furnished accommodation if you don't have relos to crash with.

Also getting your UK taxes straightened out before you leave would be a good idea.

Will you be bringing pets back - that can be a hassle and well worth looking into in advance as there are some timelines that have to be followed.

I would recommend selling as much unnecessary stuff as possible - ebay is a good option.

Hi mm22bys I know how you feel, we're moving in May !

Have you come across Australian & New Zealand Magazine? I've found it quite helpful, even if it's just for the pull out 'step by step' in the middle ;)

You've got one big advantage... house to move into and knowing which area you will be in re schools.

We haven't got that sorted yet! we'll be camping out with friends in Kirribilli and hope that we'll find somewhere nice quickly so I can 'ditch' dd at school and find nursery for ds

Hello
we are moving back later this year as well. Having somewhere to move to is the biggest hurdle i think.

Try having a look at www.britishexpats.com

theres lots of information on there. Mostly for Brits immigrating, but i have been here for such a long time i feel like i am immigrating anyway.

I am going to Sydney, where are you guys going to.

hi there

we moved back last year with our two ds's (who were 2 1/2 and 8 months old at the time) after six years in London, it was fine, really. (the hardest part was the emotional side for me!)
I found a great relocation website recently actually, I"ll dig out the address for you.

Feel free to email me on

Where are you guys going to be living?
