Please help! From UAE to UK via Malta?

Hello,

We live in the UAE and are planning to go back home in England in July or August. We were hoping the UAE would be placed in the Green or at least Amber UK travel list but it's now obvious this will not be happening anytime soon. DP is thinking to travel to the UK via Malta (at least a 10 day stay) to avoid quarantine once in the UK. I am not liking the idea one bit as Malta could be removed from the Green list while we're there. What do you think?

I'm also in the UAE, have given up on going to the UK this summer but we are having a holiday in Cyprus. It doesn't matter so much if you spend time in a green country that goes Amber, at least you can quarantine at home in the UK. If the UAE had been amber, I would have gone to my parents' home and quarantined there, as it's them I want to see anyway.

When you say 'go back home' OP, do you mean permanently or for a visit? Simon Calder recommends that anyone travelling from the UAE to the UK do exactly what you're planning i.e. 'launder' their red list status while having a holiday in Malta. Whatever you do, you don't want to be stuck quarantining in an airport hotel in London. It sounds horrendous.

I am also in the UAE, we are staying. I would love to see my Mum but we can't risk my husband being stuck overseas. Join the FB page Expats Leaving and/or Returning to the UAE, lots of discussions on there.
