@JesusWeptLady

We are in Maryland. Our kids walked out of school with all their belongings on March 13th 2020. This coming week, March 11th some kids (not all) are going back into classrooms. So 1 year.

Wow!

I live in Houston, Texas and the schools here did close on March 13, 2020 for "spring break" and they didn't return until late August 2020 with in-school learning. I know that it's still optional to attend in-person and do virtual and things have carried on as normal in the lower grades. High schools have had limited
extra-curricular activities or with little spectators but most are still going on.

All in all, March to August or 5 months.

Boarding in the UK was our plan for secondary but as they are still in primary, I will probably have to go to the UK as well with them as I can't really expect Grandparents to take up the slack at weekends and holidays when the whole travel thing is so dodgy.
The crazy thing is covid cases have been very contained here, the vaccine is freely available and virtually everything else is open.

I hear you- our cases are very low but restrictions have been constant and v random (beaches closed, Gucci open). I am thinking along the same lines as you- we have just had another cluster that is likely to scupper any semblance of normality for at least the rest of this year whereas their cousins in UK with more cases in a day than we have in 6 months (and more deaths in a day than we have had since the start of the pandemic) are basically having normal schooling. I can live with no pubs/restaurants/ non essential shops etc. I just want the DC to have a life! They both really miss school.

France: closed for 6 weeks last year from mid-March, open as usual since then.

Where I am in Italy, Ds16 has been at home since the end of January, dd11 for the last 2 weeks. I teach at the university and have been doing online lessons only since March 2020.

My kids are at a private school in Sydney. They went online on 23 March and back to school on 10 May. Two weeks online school and the rest given as holiday. The school then rejigged the school year and holidays so they missed zero school days and we finished a week later for the summer holiday.

Singapore. Schools were closed from mid-March until May 2020 I think. Back ever since with pre-cautions - masks, temp checks, eating lunch in classrooms. Apart from the first day back in August, I haven't set foot in the school for over a year. Is so weird.

I know- I have never met either of my DC's teachers- they were new to the school this year. I think it's going to take a lot to rebuild a sense of community around schools again. I just feel so disconnected from it.

Our fees are outrageous and there has been absolutely no reduction or transparency around the school costs.
I have first hand experience with resourcing be it on a tertiary setting and know how much practical subjects cost to fund. Also they have not had to pay supply teachers.
Parents are angry and frustrated .

Switzerland. Re-opened May 15th 2020. Never closed since. Yes you read that right. I am not saying this with smugness but with praise for our teachers and country putting the population least affected first.
