Why are books so expensive in Australia?

I want to take back a selection of children's picture books to use at school- iconic Australian titles like Possum Magic and Diary of a Wombat. Prices vary wildly- Possum Magic was $11.99 in toysrus and $14.99 in Angus and Robertson and $12.24 on fishpond online.
Where can I buy books without being rippped off at a reasonable price?

What other titles would you include?

Edward the Emu is fantastic. Both my girls love it and I've read it a gazillion times. Fun story and fab illustrations.
