I’m Sad Today ☹️

No real point to this thread, just needed to share with others living overseas that I’m sad today. This time last year I was visiting friends and family in the UK- It’s Thanksgiving week in the US so extra time off, plus airfares to the UK are cheap in November.🤣

So it’s now been a full year since I’ve seen them and I’m sad. I’m sure others are feeling the same way. Let’s hope the vaccines allow us to travel again next year.🤞🤞🤞

I came to start an "I'm sad today" thread only to find there already is one!

Haven't been back to the UK in over two years now and it's just too long. I don't get on well with my parents, so I'm ok just skyping with them, but miss my home town and my friends terribly. DS is 18 months and I feel so sad that I can't take him for Christmas this year :(

Oh, that’s such a long time, @allfurcoatnoknickers ( great name, btw). My elderly Dad can also be challenging- we rowed on the phone earlier today, basically because he was in a bad mood so anything I said was wrong.🤣

But you still want to see people. I so hope we can all get over there next year.🤞

I’m sad for DH. We spent so long abroad and then returned to the UK nearly three years ago.

His family are all in Australia & we were so lucky to see them last Christmas. We’re expecting our first baby any day now and it’s really upsetting to not know when PILs can come over.

Feel for you all too. I'm in the US and it's my first ever Christmas away from home! I'm beginning to miss family a lot and feel a bit sad that it will just be the 4 of us for most of Christmas week. We are meant to be going back to the UK next summer for 6 weeks, it's the only thing keeping me sane right now, so we have to have a vaccine by then or I'm planning on the private test thing, even if it's expensive.

I'm in the UK, but my son and family are in Canada. I haven't seen them in person for two years. I was due to visit in the summer to see my new grandchild and they were going to come here for Christmas.
It is so hard not knowing when we will next see each other. Thank goodness for Skype.

@AmICrazyorWhat2 It's rubbish. Two of my friends used to come through NY on business all the time, but now I haven't seen them in forever.

I've never really been homesick before, but now i am all the time!

Sorry you're dealing with a difficult parent too. My Mum never got over me moving abroad, so now she goes out of her way to be nasty to me whenever I visit/they visit.

OP and PP. Yes feeling sad here too. So much that I 've been googling UK jobs. The distance from UK family has always been difficult. But with people able to visit and us able to go back was manageable. We were due to go back last summer but obviously had to cancel. Rebooked for next summer but who knows. Apparently our country has no vaccine manufacturing capabilities so will be a while before we can get it if it's required for travel. My parents have covid-19 at the moment and seem fine so far but it is so hard knowing I couldn't get back if something happened.

I've been scrolling through Right Move looking at homes for sale where I grew up. That's a first in my missing 😩
