Was thinking it would be nice to get dh's mother to come out here for a while - coming up to 1st anniversary since his dad passed away. Figured some aussie sun etc after that might be the tonic she needs.... well okay coming from her end.

I thought it might be cool to fly over with the dds to visit for a little while and then we could all fly back!!

For me and three dds - almost $7000 - well better get saving if we are all to go back for a holiday to visit with family. On one income - it is not quite possible just yet! If you added spending money and car hire with some accommodation thrown in for us to travel a bit with the dds when there.

Dh used his frequent flyer points to get an upgrade coming back from his father's funeral.

I have a few points but not that many and dd1 was not old enough to accrue any.

Yes, we are looking at Nth Queensland robinpud ... we have friends from NZ who have just moved to Harvey Bay and I am tempted ...
I am quite into the idea of Fiji though ... something alluring about the words "Kids Club"

Hervey Bay is supposed to be lovely- we went further north and it was fab. I shall think of you when I am lying on my lounger on my fijian beach this christmas!!!

eidsvold - your dh is in queensland government isn't he? They let you salary sacrifice anything. Could he do the flights?

twentypence · 16/08/2007 05:46

We spent $7000 on flights to see my family and dh has announced he is never going again!

It was an awful lot of money and all of his annual leave to be treated like a piece of crap like my mother the whole time, not to mention the continuous rain. I missed out on 2 weeks salary as am self employed (it was the holidays for the rest of the time).

And we didn't spend any money there - no hotels, 3 days car hire paid for with some airmiles we mysteriously still had in the UK, no clothes, making sandwiches every day...

$7000 would have bought a lot of luxury holiday closer to home that's for sure.

We'll let my mum and dad come and see us in future.

MrsJohnCusack · 16/08/2007 06:51

yes
if we go next year the deal is that in return for suffering at least 2 weeks at the inlaws I get some time in London, even if I have to travel home by myself with 2 children. I am NOT spending at least $7000 to spend a holiday in Lincolnshire.

Although, apparently they're now coming to visit us again, flights booked for Feb 22nd 2008 . After they pulled out of the last trip about 5 days before on trumped up 'the trip will kill MIL' excuses, I'll believe it when I see them emerge at the airport with my own eyes.

twentypence · 16/08/2007 10:14

Hopefully this time they have booked direct with Singapore so can be changed with no cost?

eidsvold · 16/08/2007 10:44

mymama we have salary sacrificed the mortgage - much better sense.

I think we work on grandma coming to us - far better logistically than us descending on her.

ghosty - Hervey Bay is fab for holidays - we went there when dd2 was 6 months old. We stayed in the Shelley beach motel - walk across the road to the beach and parks, walk to lots of restaurants and things. Loved it. Perfect for little ones.

ghsoty - mid year - take off for Cairns or thereabouts - fab time. Mackay is great for a visit. Take off up to Eungella to see platypus in its natural environment.

We are off here for a few days soon

seventh floor

stayed last year and loved it - back for a few days this time.

Visiting Australia Zoo on the way. The dds will love that.

I can't even bring myself to ask twentypence. Any suggestion that perhaps they may not come again will be met with outraged afforontedness on their part, as if they weren't actually the flakiest pair of drama queens on the planet

gah
