Hello StarMummy am travelling to Dubai next week for a 2week holiday with family staying in a self-catered villa. I have a 6mth-old - what are the carseat regulations for travelling in hirecar and taxi? Is it extremely hot at the moment? Is there anything you would advise that I pack with me?

many thanks for all info.!

HI, I'm not starmummy but may be able to help!
1- Always take your car seat with you and fit it regardless of regs in that country, be safe!!
2- Yes it is incredibly hot at the moment generally around 40 degrees, almost everywhere is air conditioned though but too hot for beach sand is scorching.
3- Hand held fans, plenty of formula if thats what you use, jars of baby food aswell which make good stand bys if you struggle to find food for baby to eat lathough you can get hold or bread, fruit and veg etc easily.

When I lived there it was often 50 deg C during the day at this time of year, and the humidity is very high so very unpleasant - as it cools down a bit during the evening it often went throught the dewpoint (ie humidity = 100 %)and everything got soaked. A nightmare if you were driving at the time as condensation would form on your car windows as fast as the windscreen wipers could clear it!

Hi sorry I'm late, we have visitors ;0!!!!
I see all the others have been very helpful already. The visitors exclaim daily about how hot it is but they are both grown up, so spend all day lolling about in our pool reading under an umbrella.
However in answer to your questions yes it is hot, very hot, around 43 every day dropping to 32 at night. Lol Donk, it never officially gets to 50 as the workers have to stop. The biggest issue is the humidity, it just drips down you everywhere.
On the plus side everywhere is air con so, dont forget some wraps or cardies to keep the chills off.
Not very sure on baby stuff as DS is 11. But I would def bring a car seat, taxi drivers are a bit mad and I would want my lo to have the best I could give them. The more standard supermarkets like spinneys and carrefour stock well known brands of everything (even waitrose), but I could have a look tomorrow and see for def what exactly they have.
Generally its a pretty easy place to find what you need. Donk is spot on with the humidity though. Quick tip if you are driving is to open the car windows when you get in the car it just helps to cool the car whilst the ac kicks in.
Where will you be staying and do you have any plans? If the Burj is on your list you need to book in advance. They have a website and are v efficient at email. If you need any other help please ask, I shall be more on the ball this week, back to the UK on 18th for 10 days to collect DS who is visitng his grandparents. He tells me evryday, be brave mummy it isnt that cold! lol.
Enjoy your holiday, it is a fab place
