Advice on getting a sim card in Singapore

We are moving to Singapore and I'd like to get a couple of PAYG sim cards in Singapore for the first week or two until we can set ourselves up with contracts.

Can I just get them from the airport or would it be very over priced? I have a friend visiting next week so I could ask her to buy them for me but I don't want to inconvenience then too much.

Any advice much appreciated!

You can just buy them in convenience stores etc. Need your passport

Major players are Singtel, m1 or Starhub. Like soulrunner says, SIM cards are freely available e.g 7-eleven stores or little branch stores from the companies themselves. You do need your passport and if I remember correctly, there is a 3 SIM limit per person.

Thanks for the advice - super helpful. It sounds like it's not a small thing to ask a friend to pick them up for me then. Can I get them in Arrivals Changi?

The reason I'm asking is that it's likely DH and I will have to take different mods of transport from the airport. I don't anticipate problems but I would like to use our phones to contact each other. We do have our UK SIM cards as an expensive emergency I guess.

Yes - SIM cards are available to buy at the airport. After collecting your luggage and get through the exit, there are many kiosks offering tourist information e.g. tours and transport. They sell SIM cards too.
