Any advice on options for moving to America?

I have been in a relationship with a lovely American man for a while now and considering next steps. Is the most viable visa option getting engaged, married and moving over as a spouse? Or are there other viable options? I am planning on speaking to a solicitor but wondered if anyone had any thoughts on here.

You can get engaged and move over as long as you get married in the US within 90 days.

Visa process is long at a year to 18 months so plan ahead.

I came over on a fiancée visa - the K-1. Had to file from the UK, and DH sponsored me and brought me over.

It took ages though and we were stuck in separate countries for 18 months. It was only supposed to take 6!

Moving over as a spouse of a citizen took us 10 months for the visa but I believe (just from anecdotal data) it's still the fastest way. We hired an attorney to do the application for us.

I came here on a spouse visa in 2016. I would never do the K-1. Not being able to work for months on end would have driven me insane. I'm the major earner in the household anyway so it made sense that we do things that allow me to get to work as soon as I arrived. I was working less than 2 weeks after I arrived, still with the same company to this very day. Ours took 10 months 1 day from filing the I-130 to my interview in London and I moved here 13 days after the interview. Current processing time is a little longer.

Good luck!
