Hi. We're moving back to NZ on Saturday and I was wondering if anyone was in the same position as us? Really excited, we went over in Oct 05 but came back last June because the homesickness kicked is and I was 3 months pregnant. Those hormones were just too much! But now we're off back to try again and I can't wait. Just wanted to say Hi especially to anyone on the Singapore Airlines flight from Manchester to Auckland on Saturday at 10am!

Hi, we are in Whitford, about 20 mins south of Auckland so the other side of the bridge. I don't know the North Shore very well, only the usual Devonport. DH's aunt has a place on CHeltenham Beach but we have become terribly kiwi and think the NOrth Shore is miles away - picnic hamper to visit job . To think when we were in the UK travelling 2 hours to see friends was the norm . How is the jet lag. Hopefully you are settling back in well.

sibble · 29/06/2007 02:42

Actually I should qualify that and say we are very Aucklander in our inability to travel over the bridge.

ghosty · 29/06/2007 02:46

How are you, old bean?

Haribosmum, I lived near sibble in Howick until recently (DHs job brought us to Melbourne, Aus)
Get yourself some Cheerios and watties tomato sauce and you'll be right .... ay ...

Kaybeeandzak, whereabouts are you from?

Haribosmum · 30/06/2007 23:07

Well things are still going ok so far. I start work tomorrow but hubby is still looking. We've sent off 20 applications.cv's for him over the weekend so hopefully he'll hear back about at least one of those next week sometime. Mmmm we had a Chicken Feast pizza with BBQ sauce last night (washed down with a few voddies ) It was so yum! Off to the hot pool/wave pool place this morning to get even wetter that you do standing outside in the piddling down rain at the moment! Not sure in the logic of that one.....

How has your first week at work been so far Haribosmum? Hope your dh gets a good job soon. Will help you all feel settled. Have you arranged childcare already?

AnnainNZ · 04/07/2007 07:49

hello haribosmum

Slightly belated hello from me, just saw the thread. I'm in Auckland too, in Green Bay (west Auckland), DH and I both English too. Hope you settle in well and homesickness doesn't kick in again. I think you're bound to get it now and again but I get it less and less all the time - been here 6 years now.

Are you looking to get your own place on the Shore? What areas you thinking about, or is it a bit early to be decdiding yet?

If you flew from Manchester with SIngapore (they're fab) are you from Manchester area? I'm from Bolton/Bury originally.

sibble · 05/07/2007 05:44

Just seen you have started work - wow fast. Hope it's going well and DH's hunt is going well too.

Haribosmum · 05/07/2007 21:28

Hi yes we are from Bury as well but we lived in Rawtenstall before we came over here. And in case you didn't know Thompsons chippy has been knocked down

Hubby has got a job now so we can start looking for a house to rent soon.

Better go, we're goping to the sale at the ASB showgrounds today....

Hi Haribosmum, sounds like you're settling in ok dispite being at the positive disadvantage of not liking Nz fish and chips, watch out the dept of immigration doesn't get wind of that you could wind up in trouble!!
You've moved to the right part of NZ for the warm weather, we get southerly blasts down her near Wellie. I'm from uk too with a Kiwi partner been here just over a year and I love it! Hope you animals endured the journey ok, bet they were so very pleased to see you.

kjaysmum · 05/07/2007 21:48

sorry typing too fast of coure I wasn't calling you animals I obviously meant 'your animals' oops

AnnainNZ · 05/07/2007 22:51

Rawtenstall eh? My best mate from school lived in Stubbins till a couple of years ago so I used to visit her up there whenever back in UK. I lived in Elton till I was 14 when we moved to Bolton.

SSSandy2 · 06/07/2007 09:13

you animals

Haribosmum · 09/07/2007 07:55

Ahh Stubbins, know it well. Does smell a bit though!

Had NZ fish and chips last Saturday and they were very nice. Maybe I'm getting used or maybe I've been trying the wrong places all along!

Had a HUGE argument with my SIL that we are staying with last Friday. Still angry with her but can't let it show because she's been kind enough to let us live with her and her family until we get sorted out. Basically she's a nurse at North Shore and works 2 or 3 nights a week (2pm until midnight). Last Friday the baby (7 months nearly) was crying and I'd picked him up, settled him and then put him down again. Anyway he started whinging again because he's in that stage where they can't crawl but they want to so he's very frustrated at the mo. I thought I'd leave him for a couple of minutes (we had HUGE problems ever being able to put him down for the first few months of him life and don't want him to get back that way again. Anyway he was crying a bit not screaming of you get what I mean) So she come chyarging in screaming at me that she's trying to sleep and that babys' screaming and I never pick him up and look after him! So I'm mad by this point and start screaming back at her (bearing in mind I've only just 'got over' PND and she know's that so I'm quite fragile at the moment emotionally) Then she comes over 15 minutes later and says sorry for shouting at he and I say well I know you're tired and I'm sorry is the baby woke you up but you really upset me that you said I didn't look after my baby. But then she says she sticks by that statement because I don't look after my kids! Cheeky cow! I've done nothing but look after my children, even throughout my lowest weeks, they kept me going. So I'm being civil with her but I just can't forget that she said that. She's just one of those people who think there way is the only way and everyone else is wrong. Honestly, i feel like a kid living at home and she's my mum going on and on at me. I just can't do anything right by her! So needless to say we are rapidly saving up for a place to rent of our own. Don't get me wrong I am very grateful to her for letting us stay with her and I know there are a lot of people in the house but that comment was completely out of order! Anyway rant over. Just wanted to get that off my chest!

sibble · 09/07/2007 21:12

oh haribosmum, it's soooo hard living with other people. we lived with MIL for a VERY short time when we first arrived. luckily dh started work almost immediately after we arrived (it didn't feel lucky at the time) so we could afford to rent somewhere. hope you find somewhere to rent soon. there's nothing worse than treading on egg shells.

Haribosmum · 09/07/2007 23:28

Yeah I know it's part and parcel of having 10 people (4 adults 2 teenagers 2 3yr olds and 2 babies ) Living under the same roof but I thought we'd at least be ok for more than 2 weeks! lol. Anyway we can hopefully get our own place in the next couple of weeks when the wages start coming in.

Haribosmum · 18/07/2007 08:09

UPDATE! We have found a house to rent (in Torbay for those of you that know the North Shore. So happy to be getting our own space at last!

Baby's been ill though and we spent all day Monday with him at Starship kids hospital. He seems to be better now though.

Better go because I'm supposed to be working!!!
