You can buy everything in Shanghai from lovely quality gifts to fake bags, dvds, etc
There is a company called pinyin press which sells gifts inspired by life in Asia - tea towels with a steamed bun print pattern, for example and lucky cat cufflinks.
pearls are cheap
Shanghai Tang has some beautiful scarves and jewellery
Yi ren gallery has nice trays and gift items
Lots of gift shops in the French Concession.
I live in China, but not Shanghai, so not sure where yi ren gallery is now, used to be in the market on Nanjing road, but that has now gone. Bing search engine works in China if your dh does not have a vpn.
