Thank you
Re: the electricity cuts MIL reckons some poor tourists were caught in a cable car halfway up the mountain for hours in the blazing heat. Can you imagine!

The shipping company that we are using is

Doree Bonner International

They are the cheapest company. We had about 5/6 quotes from different companies and they were the cheapest and they come and pack the stuff themselves. They were also the only company to actually come out to our house, have a look at what we wanted to ship and gave us a quote right there and then. As far as I know they don't charge you tax (but don't quote me on that!)
We are paying £520 for 2.3 cubic meter.

Many thanks

I'm from SA too. I have been here for over 6 years and have had both my babies in the UK. We are going to visit SA in June - I can't wait, although weather-wise it's probably not the best time to go.

Hi Oumarusks (mmmmm)

welcome to our chat

The powercuts are insane aren't they?!?!?
Not good for economy or reputation!

we will be there in about August

newtoallofthis · 26/02/2008 16:53

Hi there!

Can I join? My DH and I are both from South Africa (Cape Town - where else?) and have been in London for 7 years now. I am expecting my first in October (still very early days!)

Every 12 months or so we have the whole 'should we move back yet' debate but realistically I think we are here for a few more years. Rather predictabley, we have always consider moving back after a holiday 'home' but after a few months have settled down and just can't imagine relocating. I think our perspective will change once our little one has arrived - I already know I am going to miss my family sooooo much more.

Sal22 · 27/02/2008 20:03

Hi newtoallofthis!

We've also settled in so well and this is our "home" now, although agree with you completely - miss the family loads (and sunshine every now and again!) Our first baby is due in 5 weeks now, and I was sure by now I would have wanted to go "home" immediately, but so far so good - might of course change once he's actually here... And the cost of childcare in London is of course crazy.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

newtoallofthis · 01/03/2008 10:58

Hi Sal22,

Thanks for that! Goodluck for the arrival of your little one, are your family coming over for the birth (or shortly there after?)

Childcare here is crazy, I am in denial that around this time next year we may need to pay those crazy London prices!

Sal22 · 02/03/2008 22:50

Hi newtoallfthis. Yes, my mom is coming over a week after the birth and staying for 3 weeks. My inlaws might come and visit a month or so after she's left, but as we'll probably go to SA anyway, as soon as baby's passport is sorted, for the Christening, they might come later if wait wasn't too long. Caesarean date now 3rd of April, so not long to go! Can't believe how quickly time flew over the last couple of months. How are you feeling?

SAmumof2 · 05/03/2008 12:14

Hi all. I'm also a SA mum. Been in UK for 9 years. Anyone around the Midlands area?

Sal22 · 05/03/2008 12:27

No sorry, I'm in London.

SAmumof2 · 05/03/2008 15:42

Hi Sal22, I just miss having 'koffie' with friends while the wee-ones run around!! I'm a bit home sick this week.

Sal22 · 07/03/2008 16:32

Hi SAmumof2. Hope you're feeling better now. Yeah, just a nice koffie & beskuit (hmm, though, can do with an excuse for some koeksisters too...) sounds so lovely.

At least the weather seems to be improving a little, so maybe that'll help for the homesickness? xxx

SAmumof2 · 13/03/2008 16:23

Lots better thanx! Koeksisters sounds GOOD!!
