French Nationality

Hi everyone - I wondered if anyone here has applied for French nationality and if so, how long it took? I have heard it can take many months (18 months+).

My husband and kids are French (I'm British) and we live in an EU country, which I would like to stay in post-Brexit.

I'm due to take the TCF French language exam next week and plan to submit my dossier to the French consulate, as soon as I receive the certificate (assuming I pass the test) but it would be good to get an idea about what happens next and how long the various steps take...

Many thanks

That doesn't sound too bad.
I posted my dossier for the second time today.
I have downloaded the livret du citoyen and will read it tonight.

henstooth sorry I'm late to this thread but spotted that you said you were applying from another EU country. Just wondering if anyone has experience of this as DD wants to apply for joint nationality (British/French) but was told she couldn't as she was (is) at university in the UK. Will she be able to do this once she's graduated? She is bilingual and lived in France for ten years up til leaving to go to uni (a few months short of her 18th birthday - hence why she couldn't do it in France).

sorry, can't help with an answer, (howwillthispanout) but interested to see if anybody has had any success in this situation. We are in the same position, application has been sent back twice, initially for no proof of 5 year residency and then for not in France at time of application. Have been told it would be fine if dc was at a uk uni as part of a french course, or was an Erasmus student. Concerned that when the course is finished and they reapply it will then be back to the 5 year problem. Can't find any wording anywhere that states they must be in France when they apply. Home is in France and has completed all schooling here prior to uni).

@henstooth
Just wondering if you got everything sorted.
After submitting a complete dossier early this year, DH and I had interviews in April, police visit to our home in May and I heard today that the application is accepted.

Hi all, yes I got my French nationality a couple of weeks ago. Submitted my dossier in January 2018, so just under a year in total. Good luck to everyone else! Bonne chance à tous!

I acquired nationality in September 2018. Applied in July 2017. Just waiting to hear from the Prefecture now to be invited to the ceremony. We were told that it can take up to six months from nationality being granted.
