we've given it a year, or at least by the time we go it'll be a year. we've had a good year in Canada but it's one of those "it's nice but I wouldn't want to live here" type things.

I don't regret a thing. we had to do it and get it out of our system.

everything i love about the UK are all the reasons I don't want to live here and we miss my in-laws so much its painful.

UK mortgage here I come!

yay! well done for making the decision.

I so know what you mean about belonging in the UK - I always knew I would end up coming back here. Took me 10 years mind, but that belonging feeling never goes away.

Do you have a time plan in mind?

Earlybird
I would highly recommend Crown. They moved us lock stock and barrel from Leeds to Dubai. Not a single item broken. All the stuff reassembled - I didnt know some of it came apart . They cleaned and tidied, put the stuff away. They came in UK on the 3 days they said they would, took extra stuff that I just kept saying can you fit this in, can you fit that in. The container arrived 2 days early. They saw it thru customs clearance, even though we didnt have a permanent address at the time and even kept it for a week no charge till we got the villa.
All said Crown were fab. HTH.

Earlybird · 12/04/2007 12:51

Starmummy - thanks for that recommendation. Will definitely look into it. Was it eyewateringly expensive? I imgaine it probably was for that level of service/professionalism.

dw and i looked at houses last night on the net and we managed to get ourselves thoroughly depressed.

those prices. those awful UK prices.

oh don't DC. Tis awful.

Heard frightful estate agent having a conversation with a property developer this morning (about how much money they had made) in the cafe - had to resist the urge to whack them over the head with my handbag.

Ivor · 12/04/2007 13:32

We were gob smacked when we had a look in an Estate Agents window on our last trip back.
I just don't understand how people can afford to get onto the housing ladder!

Keep looking something will turn up, are you handy (ohh errr) Daddycool, maybe you could find a fixer-upper?

DaddyCool · 12/04/2007 13:38

i know. it must be impossible for a single person with no equity. even with a good career.

Hi Earlybird,
Crown were intially move expensive than Allied Pickfors but and both of them were more than Britannia. Def didnt like the guy from Allied but did tell Crown I prefered them but they were too expensivet and then they changed their quote to match!
as for the cost it was about 2.2k for a 20 foot container and then more than the same for insurance. Came to about 5.2k in the end. havet o say for the work they did it was worth every penny. I didnt have to pack a thing. But it is still alot of money, we were lucky DH co paid.
Good luck in the future.

DaddyCool · 17/04/2007 16:41

amanda, we'll be back at the end of June. It gives DW time to sort out DS's school/playschool for September.

I thought we may decide this. In fact the assumption was that this was going to happen but we're very releived as we've now got this finally out of our system and we can move on with our lives.

We had to do it to make sure we weren't missing out anything.
