Thinking of moving to Adelaide

We are thinking of moving to Adelaide in September. I am looking for a suburb with good bus or train links so DH can get to the uni. I would like to live 15 minutes away from cbd but with easy access to parks and beach. Money will be tight so any advice on best primary schools, zones for high schools and suburbs to avoid would be wonderful :)

Have you looked at the train map OP? It's not a very extensive system so being walking distance to a train stop would take some research. There's also a tram but it's only a single line and it's very packed at peak time. I use the bus to get into the CBD most days and it's fine.

What sort of budget do you have for housing?

No, not yet. We'd like to but but I need a job first. Budget of between $350 - $400 a week. Preferably near green space so the boys can get out and about :)

It's not great for transport links, why Adelaide if you don't mind me asking ?

Which university ? Adelaide Uni or Flinders ?

Adelaide uni as he has applied for a job there. We would look at a car for me and the boys as I want to start teacher training.

You'll be fine with a car and doing your research for transport.

That budget might be a stretch for a family house close to the city. Have a look at Realestate.com.au in the rental section to get an idea for what you get for your money.

Another thing to consider if you're noise sensitive is that the airport is very close to the city. It's no Heathrow but it's best to avoid the flight path.

Lots. Mostly in the North East and North Adelaide (the suburb)and also over some coastal suburbs in the west. You can see the main runway on most maps. Imagine the runway keeps going straight at either end and you'll get an idea. There are also sound maps available.

You need to pick a few

For example 20 minutes to city near beach will put you pretty much near the airport - not a big deal - it's not Singapore

If you want to do 20 minutes and near parks and not near flight path with good schools and decent housing - look at Unley Mitcham Belair and the surrounds

It's a nice place to live

I have been to St Agnes which is lovely, very near to Tea tree gully where you can catch a tram straight into the city and also near to the foothills of Adelaide hills. My nephew lives in Erindale which is very up market and pleasant. Also tea tree gully jas the most lovely shopping mall and entertainment centre.

Underdale and Flinders Park out west are good if you want to be between the beach and the city and the buses are pretty good out that way. They're near the and there's a feeling of space. I don't remember them having an issue with the flight paths. You're more likely to get plane noise through Richmond and Cowandilla. Sempahore is a great beach suburb that is still affordable and has good transport into the city as well.

I'm in Adelaide, Western suburbs. Close to city and not too far from the beach. But right under the flight path. Public transport is totally rubbish - you can get into the city ok but not from suburb to suburb.
