Job possible in Dublin - do we move to Ireland?

Hi,

Looking for some tips and places to look. DH works in Healthcare and after visiting a hospital he has been strongly encouraged to apply for a job.

We live in Kent in a 2 bed house with 2DCs. Our income doesn't really give us the chance to move where we'd prefer (a bigger home), and so the idea of Ireland with space and opportunity appeals.

Our DCs are primary age, and my work is admin or charity based work.

Does anyone have tips? What would i need to know about schools? What about house buying? What expenses won't i have thought of?

We live in Ballsbridge just in the edge of the city.

What would your budget be?

Uiscebeatha85 · 27/02/2017 20:36

I'd be straight on a plane in a heartbeat. Would love to move back

Oh heateallthebuns if only a nursing salary would stretch that far!! Its gorgeous!

Its all a bit based on how far I can go I think. My salary in a university admin job was pretty reasonable.

Are any Brits planning on returning to the UK at some point?

Pension type stuff scares me, but actually I think if we go it's likely to be a forever plan.

I won't be returning I shouldn't think. No wish to, I'm happy here. You should still be eligible for a state pension in Ireland. Contributions made in U.K. Count for irish state pension and vice versa. In fact if you work approx 50:50 in each country over your working life and keep up your contributions I think you can be eligible for state pensions in both countries!

Heateallthebuns thank you.

The job have basically told us to say when we could be ready, so for me its trying to fit around an academic year. Maybe summer 2018 if we can't do Sept this year.

It's all very exciting though!

Oooo very exciting! Too soon for this year?

Batbear · 06/03/2017 17:49

Yes probably heateallthebuns, we have the house to paint and a few debts to clear first.

Plus I reaaaally like to do my homework! Still DH could in theory head a little sooner with a view to us going immediately after school breaks up next year giving us the summer to settle and get used to our surroundings
