DH offered job in Bermuda. Our heads are spinning but highly likely he will have to take it.

I know prices are ridiculous in Bermuda but does/has anyone relocated with DC age 2 and pregnant with DC??!

Desperate for some info but can't find anything specific on blogs etc

Janstar lived there for a while, although I think she goes under another name now if she's still on here.

Try the "your expat child" website for useful links esp on schools, etc.

DH has clarified (finally) that his company will take health/medical insurance out of his wages, does this seem to be correct/standard practice???

We lived there after we got married ..27 yrs ago..so I have no current useful knowledge I'm afraid other than to say it is a stunning country and we spent way too much money socialising and having a great time. Grin All pre kids .

Our friends who went at the same time are still there..they sent their children to boarding school in UK when they reached senior school age.

I replied to your message re moving here OP. That's not a great package at all if you have to pay rent and health care out of it.

Ilikedogs · 16/06/2016 18:28

Just as an idea of expenses for you monthly.

Rent: 3,000 (cheapish 2 bed flat)
Health ins: 1,000 (depends on how much the employer will subsidise - doesn't sound like they will pay much at all so could be higher)
Nursery/ school fees: 1,500
Groceries: 1,200
Total: $6,700

His take home will probably be just below the $6000 mark unless he can do overtime?

Maybe possible if you can find work once you've had the baby.

Thank you Etta, I've replied to you. Much appreciated x

Again - based on US healthcare - taking employee conts out of wage packet totally normal. But find out how much they are. They can be anywhere from $0 to $2,000 pcm. for a family of 4.

If it's a really high figure, then based on pp, you can afford a 2 bed flat, healthcare and food for about one week a month.

Your pregnancy probably wont be covered as there is usually an exclusion period. Better check ASAP. Any minir complication means flying to the US and no hospital will accept you without cover.
Maybe rethink the timing? Move after the birth and first immunisations?

Thank you all for your info and advice, really appreciate it. Think the obvious solution is to have baby in UK and go after. Only issue is I doubt they'll wait for DH or ask him to come out first and then we follow which is not ideal in any situation. His employers also said that I may be covered depending on their particular insurance. All v confusing but think I will definitely have baby here to make sure we don't have these complications
