We're moving in July to Penang and I'm starting to panic a bit about being lonely. Everyone assures me that with an almost two year-old I'll get connected to groups quickly but I feel overwhelmed at the moment....

Sorry not in Penang but in KL.
I'd try contacting the Association of British Women in Malaysia, and see if they have any reps in Penang (I know they used to a while ago). They are based mainly in KL but they have members all over Malaysia.
