...for the contraceptive pill? And will they insist on giving me a full check up?

A GYN.

Yes, they'll give you a smear test and breast exam.

And we're talking in stirrups w/a manual exam.

And they give you a nice paper sheet to protect your modesty, even though the consult's going to have all eyes on your bits, anyhow.

OMG you guys are serious aren't you? Maybe I'll wait until we visit the UK!

In Germany the contraceptive pill is really hard to get hold of if you don't go for the check ups. I hate them so I go from doctor to doctor and ask for a prescription saying I thought I had some left and absoloutly have to take one that evening so would they give me an emergancy prescription and I'll come back for the check up later. Usually works as they haven't time to check you there and then anyway, but it feels pathetic to have to go around begging just for the pill (on top of all it costs 56 euro plus 10 euro for the prescription). Last time I made the mistake of going to a doc I had been to before and I got a real telling off as if I was a school child and was warned that they will refuse to give me nay more if I don't turn up for the next check up. Ridiculous.

But Admylin then you're not getting the smear done either or having your breasts checked? Doesn't that worry you a bit? I know check-ups are awful, so much depends on the doctor though. I now have a lovely gynaecologist - the one who delivered dd. He's really really nice but he does always do a check-up.

First gynaecologist I went to here told me off too. The second one was better but whilst he was checking me, he said everything was nice and firm (!?!) Err.... excuse me? Never went back there either.

I just hate the way they make it so hard to get the prescription and once a year would be enough for a check up - from a certain age maybe more. I suppose it is good to get it done, and after giving birth twice it is not such a big deal! I know my sister in the UK hardly ever goes.

SSShakeTheChi · 15/01/2007 10:24

Once a year is definitely enough! I agree. Come to think of it, after asking you if you weren't worried about missing all those tests, I reaslise I didn't go at all last year!
