But with the current exchange rate you don't have to be Xenia to get there

Hey Yankeefish - what part of VT? I grew up in the Northeast Kingdom. Been living here for 13 years, have dd's - 4 and 6.

Hi, I'm brand new to this - I hope I'm doing it right!

I'm American living in K&C in London and looking for other London Mum's (Mom's) advice. I came home to the USA to give birth and baby Zach and I are heading home to London in a few weeks.

How does Health Care work for babies in the UK? Are there private pediatricians (for general health care) in London or are you pretty much just as well off going NHS? Is the system really different from the US and what should I ask about or watch out for?

Any Advice or referrals would be really appreciated!

Thank you!

I've only given birth over here (and I live outside of London in Herts), but my SIL had her baby 6 days before my DS, so we've compared notes. In the US the babies are seen by a dr more often than here. They seem to have their jabs at the same time. We have developmental checks at the same time, but here mine were done by a health visitor. The biggest difference seems to be that they do more health checks over there. Here you usually only get checked at the developmental checks (8 wks, 8 mths, 2 yrs, then school age) unless you visit a health visitor clinic (for weighing) or the GP for a specific concern.

Are you registered at at GP? Basically in the UK after you have been signed off from the birth, you are handed over to a health visitor associated with your GP. I've never gone private, and have been happy with our local GPs. DS asthma was diagnosed early and treated well.

Maybe someone in K&C will be along soon.
