Surface Mail to Africa..used it?

Anyone used surface mail to Africa (more specifically Ethiopia) from the UK?
We are back 'home' this summer and I am hoping to buy things like bathmats, next-stage books for the children, which I won't need in a hurry but am loathe to use out aeroplane luggage allowance on!
Can anyone recommend any firms? Post Office seem to only go up to 4.9kg and I was thinking heavier than that!

Look into unaccompanied baggage on flights - that was how we used to get extra stuff out when we were in Africa. It was the cheapest and most reliable option.
