Advice re very worried GPs about next move

Just off the phone to the grandparents detailing our next move, to Indonesia. To say they freaked out would be an understatement! Their only concern is the DC (only grandkids both sides)...and how could we rip them from their lovely life now to live in a country with pollution, security issues etc. ...I just don't know what to say other than it will be fine/an adventure/no choice cos it's the job. My concern is that they go googling and get even more worried. Any advice? I expected a negative reaction but this has been an earthquake.....

Appreciate it's hard when you get a response like this! Particularly if you have latent worries and doubts yourself which you are bravely trying to manage! All you can do is remain calm; this is what is going to happen. Are there positives that can be mentioned for the GPs - will they be able to visit you once settled, either there or another more 'touristy' or glamorous destination nearby? Will the Dcs be able to come and stay with them for a concentrated time at their place over the summer? Can you use facetime etc to keep in touch? Perhaps the schooling in the new location is higher quality than they would get at home? Or paid by the company whereas you pay now, allowing you to save for their future? As well as all the advantages of an interesting international experience in an international world... chance to travel around...and the opportunity for you and DH to save for the DCs future with an expat (and possibly tax free?) salary..?

Feel your pain... they do get over it (usually by the end of the contract!)

I'm afraid we were just a bit brutal, we presented it as a done deal, told them we'd love them to come and visit but we understood if they couldn't and tried to show them all the reasons we thought it was a great idea. After that we left them to it.

We've actually seen more of them than we imagined we would and I think they're ok now. It's tough when you don't get the support you're hoping for though.
